Omega, the watch brand connected with James Bond since 1995, has announced two new watches to celebrate James Bond’s 60th anniversary this year. The watches are Seamaster Diver 300M models and have been inspired by two James Bond films. A colourful watch is inspired by Dr. No, while the other one commemorates GoldenEye.
Omega chooses to celebrate James Bond’s 60th birthday in style. As with other Bond brands, they take inspiration from the very first Bond film Dr. No (1962). But they do it in an unexpected way. No colourful dots like we’ve seen elsewhere. A luxury 18K Canopus Gold timepiece has been made from natural grey silicon, with each watch featuring a completely unique crystallite dial. Those tiny grey planes inside the watch are unique to your copy! The bezel is embellished with green and yellow diamonds in tribute to the Jamaican flag. It is a lot more colourful than the traditional Bond watch and makes sure you stand out! The hands are wide and have a fun hole in them, also something that can’t be missed when you’re looking at this new Seamaster watch. As an easter egg, the watch comes in a mango tree wooden box, referencing the song ‘Underneath the Mango Tree’ from Dr. No.
Celebrating the beginning
While we celebrate the beginning of the Bond franchise with Dr. No, Omega has chosen to also celebrate their beginnings with 007. The first partnership between the brands was Bond’s watch in GoldenEye (1995), which had a popping blue colour. That watch has now been the inspiration for the second anniversary watch. The stainless-steel watch features a blue oxalic anodised dial and bezel, laser-engraved wave pattern and LumiNova finish. The case back, which is the back of the watch, replicates the movies’ iconic opening sequences, with Bond in silhouette and a gunbarrel design. The 60th anniversary logo comprising of the number 60 and a gun, is also visible beneath the gunbarrel. Unfortunately, this watch does not come with a handy laser like the film.
