Lotus Esprit uit The Spy Who Loved Me wordt geveild

Eén van de twee rijdende exemplaren van de Esprit uit de film wordt geveild bij Bonhams op 1 december aanstaande.

En dat is een unieke gebeurtenis. De laatste auto uit de James Bondfilms die werd geveild was één van de vier Aston Martin`s DB5 uit Goldfinger. Deze auto werd in 2006 verkocht en bracht bijna twee miljoen euro op. De auto heeft een nieuwe eigenaar gevonden en verblijft op dit moment in Zwitserland.

Nu gaat er een andere auto uit de series onder de hamer. Het is een Lotus Esprit uit 1976 die is gebruikt voor de film The Spy Who Loved Me uit 1977 (op de foto ziet u de onderzeeër). In de film zien we een achtervolging tussen Bond en een helikopter van Stromberg. Deze is gefilmd op Corfu. Hiervoor zijn twee auto`s gebruikt waarvan een eentje wordt geveild. Naast de auto wordt er ook een nummerplaat geveild met de tekst AU 1. Dit kenteken is voor het eerst uitgegeven in 1903 en werd in de film Goldfinger (1964) gebruikt voor de auto van Auric Goldfinger, een Rolls Royce Phantom III. Au is het chemische symbool voor goud.

De Lotus is in een goede staat. De veiling vindt plaats op 1 december bij de Londense afdeling van Bonhams Motor Auctions, Olympia. Men verwacht dat de auto tussen de 100.000 en 120.000 Pond gaat opbrengen. Dat is ongeveer 130.000 euro. De kentekenplaat wordt geschat op 80.000 Pond, ongeveer 95.000 euro. James Bond’s Lotus from The Spy Who Loved Me and registration number ‘AU1’ from Goldfinger to appear at auction

With the global release of the new movie Quantum of Solace putting Ian Fleming’s legendary British secret agent James Bond firmly back in the public eye, Bonhams is delighted to announce that it has one of 007’s classic sports cars for sale.

The white 1976 Lotus Esprit from the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me, starring Roger Moore and Barbara Bach, will be sold by the international auctioneers on 1 December at its annual motoring Sale at Olympia, in West London. The car is expected to fetch £100,000-120,000.

The vehicle is one of two Lotus cars driven in the film by Roger Moore’s James Bond character. It turns into an amphibious car for the movie, driven both on land and underwater.

Also for sale, is the registration number ‘AU1’, used in another James Bond film Goldfinger. The first registration issued in Nottingham in 1903, this number was fitted to the Rolls-Royce Phantom III used by arch villain Goldfinger in the legendary film of the same name, since AU is the chemical symbol for gold in the Periodic Table. It is expected to fetch in excess of £80,000.
